Have you have activated the new Facebook timeline? The new account-diary has ben available for months, we shared how to activate the switch early a few weeks ago. (here you will also find an explanation of the new features): https://www.facebook.com/about/timeline

However, by December 22 the new look will be activated at all, and you must configure and customize it.
The featured image is definitely the main cover, which is the central image at the top on your profile that you should enter.

A site that allows you to create your own custom cover is NewFacebookBanners. You only need to visit the site and click on the green in the center of the page. You will then have hundreds of covers classified by categories, you can choose and put on your profile.

Each image can be edited by adding colors, text, lines or freehand drawing. You can also enter a new image of yourself and customize it on the site. The result can then be downloaded and set into the timeline.

Another option for the more experienced, is to use Photoshop and use a template to customize the image professionally by inserting your own images and any effects.
